Starting a business at 24 | Let me explain - LEELO ACTIVE

Let’s throw it back to October 2018. Beth & I are lounging around our Battersea apartment in London discussing our future plans as the warm UK summer had most definitely come to an end. We always dreamt of owning a business & the idea of heading back to Perth for the Aussie summer to start an activewear label felt like a great idea! 

I’ve always been a perfectionist so from the get go of planning the business the one non-negotiable was that this business must have extremely high quality products from day one. 

We didn’t really put anything into action until around March 2019. Weeks went by brainstorming names until we finally agreed, the name isn’t that important it just needs to be unique, easy to remember and catchy. The end result, Leelo Active. Thereafter we designed a logo and started to design our first line of products. 

Fast forward to June 2018 after 2 rounds of product samples we were confident that we had a product that would create the foundation for our business and establish our reputation as the comfiest leggings in the world! Now comes the scary part. It was time to pull the trigger. With a shaky hand I reached for the mouse and clicked send. 1450 pairs of leggings & sports bras were heading our way! 

July 01st 2019, we were ready for action. We threw an epic launch party at a Pent House apartment in the CBD with candle lit yoga on the terrace overlooking the swan river. It was a huge success & a night to remember. 

Ding, ding, ding. Our iPhones started going off as orders rolled in. Finally we started to see a return on the hard work we had put in. What made things even  better was the amazing feedback we started to receive about our products. It was crazy to think that as a startup our first products were being compared to the top brands in the activewear market. 

Fast forward to August 2019. This is when things didn’t go so smoothly. This is the part that many business owners leave in the closet, however we like to keep it real! Beth & I had a falling out. The reality of owning a business during a breakup started to settle in. It was an extremely rough time, trying to keep things afloat whilst managing our emotions wasn’t easy. However we kept it together, the show had to go on! I think that’s our business moto. “The show must go on” no matter how tough things get you just have to keep swimming. 

December 2019, we weathered the storm and proved that we could run a business whilst going through hell in our personal lives. Within the first few months of starting a business we had gone through heart break and losing a family member. 

The point of this blog is to keep it real with our followers. From the outside it seemed like everything was picture perfect for Beth & I. A young couple travelling the world, partying with celebrities and launching a successful business. However it hasn’t been all rainbows and butterflies. That’s life though and we have both grown and matured so much from both the good & the bad experiences. Beth & I are so proud of what we have achieved so far and we can’t wait to see where we take this business.

 No matter what life throws at you, get back up and keep going. “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light”.
